Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences

About us

CUHK has established the Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences (“the School”). The School will be instrumental in developing a hub in Hong Kong for talent training and education in mathematical sciences. CUHK will be able to develop close and deep research and education collaborations with leading mathematical sciences research and education centres in Mainland China and beyond, leveraging the synergy between Mainland and Hong Kong and facilitating Hong Kong to contribute to the development of the Country using its competitive advantage as an international city. The School will adopt a training model similar to that of the Qiuzhen College at Tsinghua University. It intends to develop deep collaboration with Qiuzhen under the leadership of Professor Yau Shing-Tung.

The School will invite world-class scholars, who will participate in high-level scientific research, lead various academic activities of the School, and also be responsible for teaching and supervising students and postdoctoral fellows. The scope of research will include but not be limited to:

  • Basic and Applied Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Computer Science
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Big Data Processing
  • Machine Learning

Mission

To build a robust platform that cultivates leaders in mathematical sciences who can make important original contributions in mathematical sciences and lead the breakthrough of interdisciplinary mathematical-science applications.

Vision

To be acknowledged nationally and internationally as a world-class mathematical science education and research hub that leads the development of mathematical science in Hong Kong, Mainland China and beyond.
